  • Where did you begin your career?

My 17 year construction career began as an apprentice bricklayer. During this first phase of my career I completed my apprenticeship up to Advanced Trowel working on a wide range of projects types from small domestic projects to large commercial schemes. I have also ran my own small construction company for 2 years while studying my undergraduate degree. I began working for Wolverhampton City Council 10 years ago as a Clerk of the Works but progressed on to become a District Building Control Surveyor within 18 months. I then joined an Approved Inspector to specialise in complex residential and commercial works.

  • What appealed about Semper?

My role as a regulator often allowed me to undertake projects where Semper were the appointed Fire Engineer. During these projects professional relationships developed allowing me to gain an insight into the diligent work culture and client care at Semper. Their innovative approach to fire safety and the development opportunities within Semper appealed to me and was/ is a team I wanted to be part.

  • What is your role in the company?

I join Semper as Associate Director of the Fire Surveying division. Within which, I support a team of self-motivated and driven surveyors to deliver project specific fire surveying services. I keep myself abreast of current and upcoming changes to the codes of practice, government approaches and developments and regulatory requirements in fire safety. I aim to utilise this information to provide bespoke internal company updates and development which in turn benefits our clients.

  • What has been your favourite project?

Government projects, such as prisons have provided unique opportunities and unusual challenges as the projects progressed. Maintaining the security requirements while satisfying the need for appropriate fire safety measures can be challenging but also rewarding.
