Planning statement

A planning statement ( fire ) sets out the thinking on fire safety matters as they relate to the early planning stages of a project. These types of document briefly consider the main fire strategy objectives with further details as to how things will work in practice coming at a later stage.

Such a document will typically include the following information:

  • A description of the development
  • Details of the site, the building layout and its height
  • The fire safety guidance to be adopted
  • The type of construction materials to be used
  • Fire service access both internal and external
  • Indicative fire strategy drawings
  • How these issues fit with local planning requirements
  • Details of the person responsible for the statement and proof of his or her competence
